As a part of the Wallace Foundation’s Principal Pipeline Initiative, GLISI developed this professional development toolkit to help school leaders in identifying, influencing and avoiding the common pitfalls associated with changing school culture. The toolkit provides transitioning principals with skills and resources to navigate the unique challenges of shifting a school’s culture, and includes several resources, including: Fictitious vignettes to explore the positive and negative influences of school culture and apply this learning to current leadership opportunities; Reflective questions to guide discussion of both fictitious and real experiences; Assessment tools to support principals with identifying their school’s circle of influence as well as the positive and negative aspects of a school culture; A framework to support short term planning to enhance school culture; A facilitator guide including timed agendas and activities.
